It happens a lot less these days. Oh, sure, there are the laggards, the throwbacks to a different time who still do this stuff. Most people these days know better.

I’m talking about drivers who turn left before going right or turn right before going left. I’ve asked a few people about this. Answers typically boil down to either ‘it’s easier’ or ‘that’s how I was taught to do it.’
Indeed, from the fifties well into the eighties it may have been easier to go left before right or vice versa because the cars then were poorly designed and few had a turning radius that actually worked. As standard in cars changed, so did the turning radi.
Unless you have a trailer behind you, there is no reason on pretty much any contemporary North American road to go the opposite direction before you turn.
