By eleven there were still only four. I checked multiple times but it didn’t change.
Over the last ten days, we began to expect five eggs. Today however, one of our hens it seems didn’t get the memo of expectations. She too was nowhere to be found.
We searched the yard. No egg, nor chicken. We looked in the forsythia. No chicken.
Did I just count wrong? It could happen, but last time I tried counting to five, I was quite successful.
Laura opened the lid to the coop. Petunia was there and looked distressed.
She’s all fluffed up and looking frantic. She might need some help today.
Laura went to buy epsom salts. She might need some help getting her egg out today.
I did not expect this. With Laura out, I decided to give Petunia some privacy in her suffering and went in and had coffee.
Twenty five minutes later Laura had returned, my coffee was finished and the two of us met back in the yard to help Petunia. There were five chickens under the forsythia. All looked content.
I checked the coop.
