Hello my foolish friends.
It’s Movember, the month of the moustache.
This month my writing will focus on the crisis facing men.
I can hear the voices now:
Crisis facing men? That’s absurd! Men are the dominant / oppressive / problematic ones! They don’t need help.
These voices in my head? These aren’t my ‘inner critics’.
These were my outer critics. Many I met in University. Even more came from therapy school. Over the last couple of years, I’ve eliminated these ‘toxic’ cowards from my life.
If you find yourself thinking things like this and are ready to jump to judgement, to leap to label and write off my writing as problematic whinging of a toxic movement or if you blame ‘the patriarchy’ or ‘toxic masculinity’ for all
Go away.
Stop reading meow.
No. Go.
It’s not you, it’s me.
Wait.
It’s not me, it’s you.
Wait.
It’s all of us.
We are all to blame.
I’m tired of that divisive bullshit. I’m just going to care for the people I can with sensitivity, integrity and humour.1
Still with me?
YAY! Thank you for sticking around.
This is for you if you’re a man who wants to take their health and mental health seriously. This is for you if you care about the future and fate of the men in your life.
I spend a whole lotta time thinking about who I serve and how and why.
I listen to marketing podcasts and things about ‘the creator economy’.
It’s difficult to imagine what value this Foolsletter has.
One thing I do know? I’m neurodiverse - a highly sensitive dude with no filter.
Well.
A poor filter and terrible impulse control. These have equipped me to say and do things that many wish they could say but unfortunately their filters interfere. I still regularly say things on the outside that people only say to themselves on the inside.
I live as a scapegoat and share the stories of my extremities. In doing so?
Y’all get to feel normal.
And in a culture where men are in crisis?
I’ve been the canary in the coal mine.
As a super soft, super sensitive dude filled with rage AND shame, I’ve born the brunt of the subtle, ugly actions that have slowly eaten away at men and maleness and our place in the culture.
This month?
I’m devoting to helping men reclaim their power as fathers, leaders and authors of their own lives.
This month, I’ll share with you my resources on men’s health, men’s mental health, shit about being a great dad, partner and leader at work. There will be guest post. There will be audio.
There will likely be a fair share of burping and farting and dick jokes as well
I want to hang out with men who are interested in this shit too.
So. On Google hangouts, I’m hosting ‘men’s room mondays’.
That will be from 8:30PM till 9:30PM Eastern time.
The first ‘men’s room hangout’ will take place on my birthday, November 6.
To find out more and to register, follow this link fool!
sure my humour may be at times vicious like bill burr or offensive like jimmy carr and as such may not be to the taste of everybody, but the humour will be there.
welcome to moustashe month
