Eddie’s intense.
He’s my kind of guy.
He plays hard. He pushes the boys.
He’s all in when it comes to his love of soccer and dedication to helping young men emerge.
He’s my son’s coach.
He’s solid. Good. Strong and just fucking so stoked to be alive.
The boys played a game where they were losing badly. The other team was dominant. They gave up. Afterwards Eddie told them that those other young men - NEEDED to win where Eddie’s team? They merely wanted to win.
(did I mention that I really like how Eddie operates)
First, he kicked their asses. Give up when you’re losing? Stop running in the game? Get ready to run.
And run they did.
No one threw up (as far as I know)
(though I do hope this happens soon)
And then?
Eddie told them they had to write a paragraph about why they need to succeed.
At home, it resulted in a long conversation about the difference between wanting and needing and stripping needs down to something really basic.
As well, we spent a lot of time trying to define success.
