Nova Scotia once had mountains taller than the Himalayas. That was before the giant sheets of ice ground them all down. If we were here before the last ice age, the mountain bike scene would be better than that in BC.
Damn you timing!
Now though, there are tonnes of hills. The Lake Charlotte area is full of fun hills to ride.
The Lake Charlotte Mini epic (sign up here) is the first event of our soon to be formed ‘Lake Charlotte Mountain Bike Association’.
I was talking with Jed the other day and proposed that by the time we’re finished building our mountain bike association and trail network, the result would be over 200km of natural single track stretching from Stanfield Airport to Liscomb Lodge.
Jeezus buddy, that’ll take a decade to build.
My reply was simple:
A decade eh? Add on three or four years of screwing up and that would make the two of us eligible for old age pensions.
It’s an absurd, foolish idea.
And?
It’s one that I can dedicate myself to.
A couple hundred k of trails that connects people, businesses and communities in ways they’ve not connected before? That sounds like the kind of legacy I want to be part of creating.
You can be part of it too.
Join us on the Lake Charlotte Mini Epic September 28 and 29.
The ride is fifty five kilometers. Some think that 55km isn’t that difficult. For you? This will be a nice, easy ride with a lot of opportunity to explore, play and enjoy what the terrain in and around Lake Charlotte has to offer.
You’ll finish satisfied by what you’ve ridden but will be curious to ride more.
For others, this might be the biggest ride you’ve done. Welcome to the world of epic bike riding!
We are here - to create opportunities for people to ride bikes in places and over distances that they didn’t think possible.
When we camp out at the head of the lake and you hear the deer rutting and the coyotes howl and there’s very little light pollution and the stars are all so well defined, you’ll experience a sense of just how improbable your existence is.
That’s right! Underneath the spandex and sweat is a profound opportunity to connect with your sense of existential awe and have fun doing it.
The money collected for this ride will go a long way towards starting our new association.
Come join us in making the impossible possible.
Finally, what legacy do you want to be part of?
What impact do you want to have in the world?
