School has a major advantage for people who want to change. It’s a way we get to tell the world ‘not yet’.
Sure, you might have a big change you want to make either in your own life or in the lives you seek to serve. Instead of getting at it with what we have the best we can, we enroll in school. In doing so, we get to say not yet.
We get to say not yet to actual responsibility.
We get to say not yet to actual impact.
We get to say not yet to actual leadership.
We get to say not yet to the actual change we want to be part of.
Not yet, I’m not qualified.
Not yet, I’m not ready.
Not yet, you can’t pin this one on me - I’m just a student. What could I possibly do? THEY haven’t given me permission yet.
If you’ve been on the hook for a lot in your life, it can feel like a break to pause and learn and say ‘not yet’.
‘Not yet’ is a clear path to regret.
The best time to start taking real action yesterday.
The next best time?
Right now.
