rockets in my pockets
and Halloween gifts - two weeks later
Dear Reader,
I try to do something every day, in the here and meow, that will be a gift to my future self.
Mostly I don’t expect any results, any impact from my efforts.
For example, when it comes to writing, it’s really quite difficult to see how writing daily impacts me in any tangible way.
That’s been true for most of these five years of writing.
This summer though?
As a tour guide, I’ve told stories.
The composition, phrasing, timing and overall construction of those stories came easily.
Writing outstanding commentary just flowed.
It was pretty sweet.
Speaking of sweet,
On Halloween, I took a big handful of the candy slotted for the neighbourhood beggars. I hid it from them. I hid it from myself.
I stuffed it in one of the pockets of an underused backpack.
Last night, on a chilly, hungry night at the cottage, I remembered my sweet larceny. I recovered my “buried treasure” - five Tootsie Rolls and a big handful of Rockets. It’s all gone now.
But,
That gift from the past was delicious.
It got me thinking though: What other candies have I hidden?
What other goodies are out there?
Keep those teeth sweet you fools.
And if you floss every day?
You’re doing much better than me.
That’s the tooth.
