People are so weird.
Individuals are quirky.
Groups?
Absurd.
Surveys show that one of the top five biggest fears that people have is public speaking.
It’s a bit strange to me that standing in front of a thousand people and telling a story is scarier than being confined or rappelling down the side of a mountain.
But I’m a bit quirky that way.
Many more say that dancing in front of a hundred people is scarier than being trapped in a small box without a way to easily escape.
As someone who spent most of his high school years locker sized, I can attest personally to the fact that small spaces are much more terrifying than an audience.
At least with an audience they’re in front of you. If they decided to rush the stage?
There’s usually room to run away.
Sharks?
Now sharks are scary. Those prehistoric monsters lurking beneath the surface don’t even need to be within ten miles of me in the water in order to raise the hair on the back of my neck.
They merely need to pass through my mind and I’m bounding from the water with the same gusto a lab brings as they bound into it.
Public speaking in front of a bunch of sharks?
That wouldn’t be as bad.
At least I’d know they were there.
What terrors lurk in the back of your mind?
What fears seem strange to you?
