Should you wait?
Really?
I mean, really wait.
Wait with a watering mouth, when things are oh so close.
Raspberries in the fall are delightful
You could eat them today or tomorrow.
Wait for tomorrow and you assume some risks are present. It could get warm in the sun and overripe by the time you get back to it. Some bug might chew on them
Or?
Or maybe you can eat them fresh off the plant, chilled from the afternoon, yet ruddy with sugars.
That’s the goal - to wait to pick the raspberries at peak sweetness.
They were delicious today.
I must have eaten a full quart - or more!
Why, yes, I may have gobbled more than a couple of handfuls of underriped raspberries, but they’re just so bright and pink and juicy looking I can’t help myself.
Besides underripe raspberries are delightfully tart.
Sure, I may wake up with a mud puddle under my arse…
If only I’d let them stay another day on the bush then maybe they would’ve reached perfection.
I love how the cold, coolness of the air slows down the ripening. of the raspberries on the bush, extending their perfection, just a little bit longer.
This fall has been perfection.
How can we draw it out, make this moment last just a little bit longer?
The leaves.
The air.
The sun?
Life?
All a glory, all perfection.
It’s the fall of delicious, chilled raspberries - all drawn out as long as the afternoon shadows.
And yet?
Nothing’s perfect, especially not this glorious season.
The fall is not complete.
These berries however?
They’re glorious in their delicious pageantry.
