One of life’s more elementary and painful lessons is typically taught in the winter.
I was taught by a metal bed frame at scout camp. Once someone told me about the possibility, how could I not find out for myself.
You see, if metal is cold enough, your tongue sticks to it.
When was the last time you licked a cold metal pole?
It’s a terrible place to be - vunerable, stuck and uncertain how to proceed
I typically like to take most of my projects up to the point of completion. Most times in the past, I’ve bolted impulsively.
Lately, I’ve been licking fence posts and flag poles.
I’d would love to give up, but that would tear away the flesh of my tongue.
Even giving up would be to painful.
Perhaps you’ve started things and were derailed.
Perhaps you’ve licked a few flag poles in your day.
Other times maybe you’ve given up.
If you’re like me at all, you’ve likely let a lot of people down a lot. You’ve likely watched yourself in the process of doing it.
There are days when picking yourself up and continuing on seems impossible.
Congratulations. You are exactly where you need to be - with your tongue stuck frozen to a flagpole.
Welcome to the impasse.
It would be impossible to consider this next phase impassable.
Rather than running off randomly, tearing at your tongue, impeeding your ability to speak and eat, how can you escape from here?
What if it wasn’t a matter of escaping but waiting for help?
Wait where you are.
Eventually the sun will warm the pole and you’ll be free.
And if you’re lucky, someone might find you there and offer to help.
Either way, you need a bit of warmth to keep moving.
If you’re lacking that today, there’s alway tomorrow.
Hang in the bud.
