Falling asleep can be difficult. Staying asleep can be worse. For some, this is more difficult than others. For some of us, insomnia is seasonal.
Right now, it’s NHL playoff season and I haven’t been sleeping. West coast games begin at 11:30 here. They end at at least 2 am - and that’s without overtime.
What’s worse, I’m a very vocal hockey fan. Watching hockey is a very physical experience for me. I twitch, brace for hits, shout and move my feet. These are involuntary actions.
Live games are even more intense. The nervous systems of over ten thousand people all charged up and calling for violence is a hell of an experience. We are herd animals. We impact each other at a pre verbal level.
Crowds at sporting events eventually become a single entity. They breath and act as one. When the puck crosses the line and the home team scores, the crowds react as if in one voice. The sound is deafening, the sensations are incredible.
Elation?
Freedom?
Joy?
Belief?
Certainty?
The anticipation of victor…
