I’m back at the woodpile.

The pine is wet and frozen.

It splits so easily.

A tap is all it takes.

Well,

That’ s not entirely true.

You need to have the grain lined up first.

If you don’t

Bomp!

The axe, it bounces.

Bomp!

firewood fears me!

I could wack at that all day without getting a nice clean satisfying hit.

I’d wack it so may times I’d have toothpicks, not firewood.

(theoutrage!)

Some people spent all their time lining up their logs,

Sure, it’s important to get the grain lined up right.

The only way to tell though?

Put the stump on the block. Make your best guess.

Then?

Start swinging.

Don’t worry too much wondering if you’ve got the grain lined up the way you want it.

The wood will let you know if you’ve hit it correctly.
