let’s create a world were we experience life as though it’s theatre. The people around you? They’re characters, merely players, doing their bit, making their entrances and exits and so forth.

The play’s the thing eh?

But our everyday play is more improvised than scripted.

We humans could learn a bunch from dogs. Even their improvised play has a bit of structure. Their improvised play has it’s own set of rules.

Sure, there’s ass sniffing.

And after one of my dogs marks territory, his brother is quick with his tongue to clean up the drip from the magic furry pink lipstick from which the markings flew.

Play structure has more to it than noses buried in buttholes discovering last night’s lunch. Dogs demonstrate four rules of play.

  1. Ask first. With dogs, this is the ‘play bow’

  2. Mind your manners. That means practicing self restraint. This is how really big powerful gentle dogs can play with small viscous kicking dogs like mine. Sure things can be heated by times. When they do, dogs tend to pull back…
