This is the fourth late February of the Foolsletter. It’s interesting to observe patterns in how I publish. I’ve kept a journal. There, I can trace and track my ebb and flow creatively.
It’s late February, so I’m sagging a bit. I’m behind.
Rick Rubin captures a lot of how I approach creativity. He’s both prolific and consistent while at the same time allowing himself room to breathe within the process. In The Creative Act, a way of being, Rubin says that a lot of the time when we’re sagging or distracted - whether it’s walking or whittling - we’re actually working on something in the background.
I’m a big proponent of this.
My biggest issue is that I get trapped in the land of distraction. I spend far too long letting something build in the background.
Having said that, that’s exactly what’s happening right now.
As this happens I’m on edge.
