Here in my town, municipal wastewater - has a charge. The water company charges home owners to take care of the rain.

Included in the price of the water we consume here, there cost of dealing with the waste.

Stormwater and wastewater both cost money.

Septic systems?

They are expensive to create. Though once in place, ideally it can take care of itself.

And funny enough, despite the fact that there may not be infrastructure to deal with rainwater, and you might have a well, the water company sends you a bill for the rain anyway.

But in order to process your own shit, a lot specific things are needed. You need a big enough hunk of land, distance from water sources and the right kind of soil. You can build an entire system devoted to dealing with your shit.
