Emotional Labor Day
Tear jerking work
The words conjures images of road crews crying over cracked pavement or flying into a panicked rage.
Emotional labor involves our ability to use practical empathy to solve problems. Emotional labor involves taking risks with ourselves and our work. Emotional labor means starting things that likely won’t turn out the way we intended.
Emotional labor is the work of showing up even when we don’t want to.
Emotional labor is the difficult work of seeing people and caring enough to make a difference.
The Foolsletter here?
This is emotional labor.
I learned about emotional labor and how I could serve others better through Akimbo workshops put on by Seth Godin and his friends.
Initially I took the Marketing Seminar1. There I learned to ‘find the others’.
In January of 2021 I began the ninety day sprint that is The Creatives Seminar. There I started to find my voice and understand how ‘action creates trust’.2
The Foolsletter started a month later and has been shipping daily ever since.
They have been running for several years.
They are also running for the last time beginning on September 19. The deadline for enrollment is September 8.
I highly recommend that you check them out.
To quote Seth: “Go make a ruckus.”
based on Seth’s incredible book ‘This is Marketing”.
This workshop is based on ‘The Practice’ also by Seth. Also incredible. Mandatory reading for anyone interested in creativity.
