In order to play the trumpet, you must approach it heroically.

A hero isn’t worried about what happens to them.

They don’t care about how they sound.

A hero knows full well how stupid they look playing the trumpet - with their eyes bugging out, cheeks puffed like a chipmunks all while your body stays strong enough to support the massive volume of air required for it to summon the glory of the ages in sonic form.

Heroic trumpet players play bad notes and ignore them. They keep playing. Sure in their 32 bars of solo space they might miss a note or two but there’s always the next one. Even on a long held note, a good player can adjust.

There’s no room for doubt when playing trumpet. A timid trumpet is an easy thing to hear. The doubt squanks out feebly. The air that should go into the trumpet, leaves the room if the musician isn’t putting enough wind into it.
