With the right saw, you can cut a board.
With the right knife, you can skin and gut a deer.
With the correct clippers, you can cut hair.
The carpenter knows the correct saw.
But any fool can look that up.
The hunter knows the correct knife.
But any fool can look that up too.
The barber knows the correct clippers.
Any fool can look that up as well.
The carpenter cuts straight, correct and true. It requires technique.
The hunter can open up a deer’s belly without hitting the bladder and ruining the meat.
And a barber?
They can take clippers and make things look acceptable.
All of these things took time and supervision to perfect.
So go ahead, build your own house.
Plan on ruining more wood than a carpenter would.
Hunt and kill your own food.
Expect a big bloody mess with more drama than a hunter would experience.
And finally?
Cut your own hair.
It will look as you imagined.
I’m raising this point today because of ADHD and the internet.
ADHD says Go ahead, do it.
The internet says: Here’s how.
But the results of a first time hair cut?
Problematic.
Just a little fucked up reminder to live within your limits and work within your paygrade.
When you attempt to go beyond this?
Expect laughter.
Because every fool knows that the price of knowledge is humility.
And if you can’t find the humility yourself, the world will be more than willing to help.
Laugh at yourself quickly.
That way you get there before the arseholes do.
You can do this!
I’ll help!
